Record-breaking Rugby World Cup on SuperBru

The 2011 Rugby World Cup marked the biggest ever tournament on SuperBru, the sports prediction site.

Over 130,000 avid rugby fans took part to beat the previous record of just over 90,000 set by Super Rugby earlier in the year. A total of 18,551 pools were created, in which players challenged each other for bragging rights and prizes, whilst 5.15 million predictions and 79,770 banter posts were recorded.

During September and October, more than 17 million page impressions were served on the RWC game on SuperBru.com, with an additional 10 million impressions on the mobile site at m.superbru.com.

The site continues to grow from month to month, and is South Africa's third biggest sports site behind Sport24 and SuperSport, and during RWC ranked as the 35th biggest website in the country, according to Alexa.com - ahead of sites like Vodacom, Times LIVE and Paypal.

On average during the World Cup, players were visiting SuperBru every other day (3.5 visits per person per week) and staying for over 6 minutes at a time, highlighting the strong engagement with the game.

Andy Wood, Founder of SuperBru, said, "The heart of SuperBru is the pool experience, and with over 18,000 pools in this tournament we saw usage of this feature like never before - from major national brands running prize pools for thousands of players as marketing exercises down to small groups of friends and family looking for a bit of competitive banter, and everything in between. And as ever, players who didn't expect to care about the Georgia v Romania pool match suddenly found themselves madly cheering for the team they'd predicted: SuperBru connects fans to sport in an unprecedented way."

James Hutchison, Commercial Director, commented, "Along with SportGuru and The Rugby Blog, the SportEngage sites have served over 30 million page impressions in the last two months. We're delighted with how the tournament went, and so are our clients who have benefited from genuine fan engagement, as well as great brand exposure."

Long-time Bru Colin de Beer, who won a trip on the Blue Train for winning the tournament, added, "Thank you so much for the opportunity to take part in this amazing comp. It really is the best format of 'office rugby' playable! It was and remains a privilege to take part in SuperBru."

SuperBru's next major event is the 2012 Super Rugby tournament, with the game set to open in January.
